The mian Hall of Fengguo Monastery was constructed during the Kaitai era (1020) of the Liao Dynasty. Although it underwent multiple repairs and expansions during the Jin, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties—and thus has been partially restored over the centuries—traces of its original Liao Dynasty structure are still evident. The building’s overall style strongly reflects influences of the Tang Dynasty. Inside the main hall, seven Buddhas are enshrined. According to certain local gazetteers and folk traditions, these seven figures represent seven emperors of the Liao Dynasty—including Emperor Shengzong himself—who were regarded as incarnations of the Buddha.
