- This summer, when I visited Fengguo Monastery, I stepped into the main hall from the scorching outdoor heat into the cool indoor sanctuary. Transitioning from the bright sunlight into the dimly lit space, it took a moment for my eyes to adjust and for me to see my surroundings clearly. It felt as if I had stepped into an entirely different world in an instant.
