There has long been debate surrounding the construction date of Guangsheng Monastery Pagoda. Some contend that it was built during the same period as Fengguo Temple, while others, citing a stone stele unearthed nearby, suggest it may have been built in the later Liao Dynasty. Certain differences in architectural style, as well as the discovery of a Jin Dynasty bronze mirror in the pagoda, have led some scholars to propose that the portion above the fourth story may have been rebuilt or supplemented during the Jin Dynasty. Guangsheng Monastery itself has vanished, and the monastery bearing its name today is an entirely new structure.
