At No. 151 Xinfeng Road in Dongguan, the Former Site of Mingsheng Middle School Library stands as a rare survivor. Built during the Republic of China era, it remains one of only two libraries from that period left in the city.

In 1935, military and political figure Li Yangjing funded this brick-and-mortar sanctuary. He named the institution after his father, Li Mingsheng. Li poured his wealth into the campus, hiring renowned scholars to walk these floors and guide a generation of students. He envisioned a complete educational environment, adding swimming pools and planting roadside trees that cast long shadows across the grounds. Inside this library, the quiet rustle of pages once mingled with the voices of early twentieth-century intellectuals.

Time and weather have tested these walls. Recently, severe rainstorms swept through the Dongzheng Community, pushing floodwaters against the historic foundations. The damp earth carries the memory of those heavy rains. The building endures. On January 16, 2019, the municipal government officially designated it a cultural relic. Between 2021 and 2023, conservation workers arrived with fresh mortar and careful hands. They restored this site alongside the nearby Mingyuan and the Former Residence of Li Zhangda.

Today, visitors can trace the exact perimeter where 1930s students once gathered to read. The restored facade holds the quiet dignity of early educational philanthropy. The library offers a physical connection to a time when local leaders built enduring spaces for learning. The scent of rain-washed stone and the precise geometry of the 1935 architecture invite you to step into Dongguan's scholarly past.
