Dongpingfang Pagoda has a hexagonal base and is constructed with solid bricks. Originally, it was a nine-story dense-eaves pagoda, but now only eight levels remain, as the ninth-story eave and the spire have been lost. The remaining height measures 19.24 meters.
The base of the pagoda adopts a Sumeru pedestal style, with the waist section divided into three niches on each side by pilasters. These niches contain carvings of Bodhisattvas and celestial musicians, while the corners feature sculptures of vajra warriors. Above the pedestal are two lotus platforms separated by a horizontal beam, which is adorned with carvings of dharma wheels and vajra scepters.
The pagoda’s body has six sides, with the southern side featuring an arched door that leads to the central chamber, while the other sides are decorated with carvings of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and flying apsaras. The eaves are made of bricks and gradually taper upwards, but the top part of the pagoda has been damaged.
Dongpingfang Pagoda is one of only two hexagonal pagodas from the Liao Dynasty remaining in western Liaoning, making it an exceptional example of this architectural form.
