Dongguan Jieyuan Di
Dongguan, Guangdong, China
Tucked within the active campus of Guancheng Central Primary School stands Dongguan Jieyuan Di, a quiet survivor of the Ming Dynasty. Originally the residence of Chen An, a scholar who achieved the highest rank in the provincial imperial examinations, the building anchors the historic Jieyuan Fang neighborhood. For centuries, this area represented the intellectual heart of Dongguan. Today, following careful structural reinforcement, the ancient architecture serves as the Guancheng Education History and Culture Exhibition Hall.
Visitors stepping across its threshold follow a narrative titled 'Journey of Scholars, Thousand-Year Return.' The interior space is divided into seven distinct halls that trace the evolution of local learning. In the 'Nation Values Culture' and 'Gathering of Scholars' rooms, the focus rests on the demanding imperial examination system and the Ming and Qing dynasty figures who mastered it. Moving forward in time, the 'New Learning Spreading East' hall documents the region's transition toward modern education, while 'Let a Hundred Flowers Bloom' profiles the contemporary achievements of nine local primary schools. By integrating a protected heritage site directly into a functioning school, Jieyuan Di bridges centuries of academic pursuit.
