Hegang National Mine Park, one of China's first 28 national mine parks, opened its doors in August 2009. It evolved from the Lingbei Coal Mine, which was established in 1958 after coal was discovered during an attempt to extract oil from marshland. Initial surveys estimated the site held about 39 million tons of coal reserves, with easily accessible seams making it ideal for open-pit mining. To date, over 32 million tons have been extracted.
Today, the former northern open-pit area of Lingbei Mine has transformed into Hegang National Mine Park—a popular spot for local strolls. The park showcases relics like abandoned locomotives and railways alongside various sculptures.
