Clive
Covington, Kentucky, United States of America
Clive the Alien is a 30-foot-tall public art installation located in Covington, Kentucky. Created by artist Marc Phelps of AlloyFX, Clive is constructed from fiberglass and Styrofoam. The sculpture depicts a friendly green alien leaning out of the Midtown Parking Garage at Fifth and Scott streets, peering through a massive magnifying glass at passersby below.
Installed in late 2023, Clive is part of Covington's Quality of Place grant program, which aims to enhance the city's business districts through public art and creative elements. The project, costing approximately $50,000, was funded by the grant program in collaboration with meetNKY.
The Cincinnati region has a rich history of UFO culture, housing the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), a global organization dedicated to investigating UFO sightings. Additionally, the nearby Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is rumored to have stored the remains of the alleged 1940s Roswell alien craft.
Clive has quickly become a local landmark, inviting residents and visitors to engage with the city's vibrant public art scene. His playful design encourages onlookers to pause and capture photos, adding a touch of whimsy to Covington's urban landscape.
