Located in Fengxiang Village, Fengyu Town, Eryuan County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, the Fengxiang Duan Family Ancient Courtyard is a historic Bai ethnic residence within a National-level Historical and Cultural Town. Also known locally as one of the well-preserved traditional dwellings in the Fengxiang area, the courtyard is closely connected with the history of the Duan family lineage. Local historical records and genealogical documents preserve the family's long-standing presence and influence in the region.

The original construction date of the Duan Family Ancient Courtyard remains unclear. The existing structure was built during the Qing Dynasty, when Fengyu flourished as an important post station along the ancient Tea Horse Road. The village's long-standing tradition of education and scholarship—producing numerous imperial examination candidates over the centuries—is reflected in the refined architectural detailing of residences like this courtyard. Today, the Fengyu area still preserves fourteen historic courtyard residences from the Ming and Qing dynasties, of which the Duan Family Ancient Courtyard is a representative example.

Among the courtyard's most significant architectural features is its traditional Bai-style "three studios and one screen wall" layout, with intricately carved wooden brackets, upturned eaves, and ornamental doorways. Built using local timber and earth-and-wood construction techniques, the residence reflects the Bai philosophy of harmonizing the built environment with the surrounding landscape. The courtyard also features a central garden space, carved wooden lattice windows, and a gently curving tiled roof—details that demonstrate the refined craftsmanship of regional artisans and the family's social standing.

Today, the Fengxiang Duan Family Ancient Courtyard remains a preserved historic dwelling and an important cultural landmark within Fengyu Town. The courtyard is part of the broader Fengyu Ancient Buildings cluster, which has been recognized as a provincial-level cultural heritage site, preserving the layered history of Bai culture and family lineage in Fengxiang Village for generations.
