October 27, 2025, morning, clear with thin mist. The heavy fog from earlier had just lifted, finally allowing a clear view of the buildings. Due to the lack of bending-resistant components in ancient times, bridges could not achieve excessively long single spans. For shorter spans, such as a few dozen meters, they could still be constructed as arch bridges, converting bending stress into compression. For longer spans, they had to be built as these low bridges hugging the water's surface, sacrificing navigability. Presumably, during high water periods, the river would submerge the bridge deck, rendering the stone bridge impassable.
