Shantou Tiantianle Candy Food Co., Ltd. (Planet Cup)
Shantou, Guangdong, China
Inside the sprawling 16.5-acre complex of Shantou Tiantianle Candy Food Co., Ltd., the air carries the heavy, warm scent of roasted cocoa and baking wheat. Founded in 2002 and officially registered in 2009, this facility produces a defining childhood memory for millions: the Planet Cup. The snack combines thick chocolate paste and crispy biscuit balls, designed to be scooped out with a tiny plastic spoon.
The production floor operates as a self-contained industrial ecosystem. Over 1,000 employees manage a fully integrated supply chain. Raw ingredients meet Swiss chocolate grinding equipment, reducing cocoa and sugar to a silken paste. Nearby, automated baking lines churn out thousands of golden biscuit spheres. The company manufactures every component of its packaging on-site. Dedicated factories handle printing, injection molding, cup-making, and carton construction.
This vertical integration stems from a quiet moment of trust years ago. When the company needed a better way to package its treats, founder Lai Xinting traveled to Shenzhen and commissioned an untested automated PVC cylinder machine from a small workshop engineer named Tang. That handshake led to a custom production line featuring infrared sensors that align the colorful, collectible lid patterns perfectly on each cup. Today, those machines cut and seal the plastic with absolute precision, filling 390-gram and 1000-gram buckets. A single large bucket holds exactly 190 individual cups.
The factory’s output reaches far beyond its Guangdong origins. Pallets of Halal-certified Planet Cups leave the loading docks daily, bound for markets across the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and South America. Children thousands of miles away experience the exact same tactile ritual: peeling back the printed foil lid, hunting for a rare cartoon pattern, and scraping the very last drop of chocolate from the bottom of the cup. The Shantou facility turns raw sugar, flour, and plastic into a globally shared experience, engineering simple joy on a massive industrial scale.
