Shantou State Guest House
Shantou, Guangdong, China
The Shantou State Guest House occupies a quiet stretch of Haibin Road, looking out over the sea. Established in 1950 as an exclusive reception base for municipal officials, the compound features traditional Lingnan garden architecture. Dense foliage, winding stone pathways, and an expansive artificial lake create an atmosphere of serene isolation. The property currently operates as an upscale commercial hotel and an official government venue.
Building 2 was eventually demolished because of a fire in 2000, and a quiet flower garden now grows in its place. The rest of the compound has undergone extensive modernization. A 2019 ecological project overhauled the 8,400-square-meter central lake, introducing advanced water purification systems and waterfront observation platforms. Subsequent renovations updated the surviving structures with modern safety configurations and elegant interiors. Walking through the guest house today, visitors experience a seamless blend of high-end hospitality and classical landscaping.
