Huizhou Sports Park

Visitors approaching the Huizhou Sports Park encounter a striking piece of civic architecture set against the dense commercial skyline of the Jiangbei district. The main gymnasium rises from the grounds like a white swan in mid-flight. This design honors Huizhou’s historical moniker, "Swan City," grounding a modern steel structure in local lore. The building’s massive space frame spans over a hundred meters, creating an expansive, column-free interior equipped with international-standard wooden flooring and seating for thousands of spectators.

The park has anchored the city's public life since the 1990s, serving as the primary stage for Huizhou’s collective memory. In the spring of 2008, crowds gathered in the main plaza to watch the start of the Beijing Olympic Torch Relay. The grounds also hosted the inline hockey competitions for the 2025 National Games. These high-profile events punctuate decades of continuous daily use by local residents who rely on the space for recreation and gathering.

The layout merges athletic utility with ecological preservation. Trees, shrubs, and winding paths cover sixty percent of the 420,000-square-meter complex. A green courtyard physically links the main and auxiliary gymnasiums, softening the transition between the massive concrete forms. At the entrance, half-leaf-shaped music fountains welcome pedestrians into an open-concept space that flows naturally into the adjacent Citizen's Park.

Today, the park functions as a seamless extension of the city itself. Situated across from the municipal government offices and a short distance from the East River, it draws a steady stream of people from the surrounding neighborhoods. Athletes train on the professional courts, while families walk the shaded paths outside. For those exploring Huizhou's urban development, the complex offers a clear view of how the city values public space, providing a shared ground where athletic ambition and quiet leisure naturally coexist.
