At No. 64 Huguo Road, near Dongfeng Square, stands Kunming's oldest surviving traditional antique market. This structure is physically anchored to the memory of the 1915 National Protection Movement, sitting beside the 1919 Huguo Bridge built to honor Yunnan's defense of the republic.

Every weekend morning at 8:30 AM, collectors who have traveled across the remote mountains of Yunnan arrive to unpack their finds. They lay out ancient coins, porcelain, and vintage memorabilia on the courtyard floor. Buyers run their fingers over cold jadeite and old silver, bargaining in quiet murmurs.

The building itself is a classical three-story quadrangle imitating Qing Dynasty architecture. It features red-lacquered wooden doors, columns painted with murals, and a golden-tiled roof that reflects the high-altitude sun. The architect designed a deliberate spatial puzzle: the main staircases stop abruptly. To reach the third floor, visitors must walk to a quiet corner of the second floor and climb a narrow, winding staircase.

Today, fifty permanent shops occupy the building. The first floor remains dedicated to the heavy, cool touch of jade and jewelry. On weekends, the central open-air courtyard fills with temporary stalls. As you ascend the winding stairs, the noise of modern Kunming fades.
