Dali Three-No Exhibition Hall
Dali, Yunnan, China
Near the Nanwuli Bridge in Dali, Yunnan, the Three-No Exhibition Hall stands as a physical manifestation of creative defiance. Founded by Huang Longbin, a comic author and live painter known as Lao Hei, the space operates on three strict principles: the rejection of social hierarchy, the abandonment of mediocre secular values, and the refusal of traditional binding morality.
Lao Hei first established this concept in the historic artistic neighborhood of Xiaozhou Village in Guangzhou. There, he focused on non-commercial exhibitions, gathering creators who sought artistic autonomy. As Dali transformed into a sanctuary for digital nomads, youth, and independent creators, Lao Hei relocated the hall to its current home near the bridge.
The physical space functions as a multi-functional sanctuary. Visitors entering the courtyard encounter the scent of woodsmoke from bonfire parties and barbecues. Inside, the air carries the smell of fresh ink from independent art book exhibitions and the sound of experimental music performances. During live painting sessions, Lao Hei applies sweeping, wet brushstrokes directly onto canvases before an audience, leaving visible ridges of acrylic paint that dry in the cool mountain air.
In August 2022, the hall became a central node for the Dali Web3 Street Fair, also known as the Dali Web3 Summer Fest. During this decentralized gathering, Lao Hei stood before crowds, executing live paintings that captured the spirit of the digital nomads and self-organized communities surrounding him. Today, the courtyard remains a space for open sharing sessions. Visitors sit on simple wooden benches, discussing art and philosophy free from commercial pressure. The Three-No Exhibition Hall invites you to touch the pages of zines hand-bound by local artists, listen to the clashing chords of experimental musicians, and participate in a community defined by absolute creative freedom.
